Horse Training Tips – Common Problems You Might Encounter

If you have just purchased a horse from a previous owner, you will have to spend some time helping the horse to get used to its new home. Even people need some time to adjust to new environments, everybody knows that, but horses find it harder than we do. The first step into solving this problem is creating a strong bond with your horse. You will find several techniques to apply for a successful result; choose one and get started!

Feeding time can be another issue. There are horses that become rather aggressive and may even attack you at feeding time. Some of them do it instinctively, because no one has ever taught them not to. Changing the feeding location will be a good way to approach horse feeding. Switch from the camped stall to an open field and everything will be much easier. And do not try whipping the horse to make it behave; it won’t solve the problem anyway.

An unfamiliar area will make most horses balk at moving forward. This does not mean the horse is stubborn; it’s their nature. They are only confused and have no idea what to do; so the first thought coming to their mind is not to move at all. In order to persuade the horse to change its mind and react to your intention in a positive way, you can show it where to go by letting another horse lead the way. If that does not work, you may take him to the spot several times until the horse has become familiar with it. You will soon be able to take the horse on the trail with no hassle at all.
